How to Make Crochet Eyes for Amigurumi without Glue
Eyes are an essential part of amigurumi, as they add expression, personality, and life to the piece. Many people use safety eyes or even glue to secure the details, but you can create fully sewn-on crochet eyes for added security, especially for pieces made for children and babies.
Materials Needed
Black thread (or dark brown, depending on your preference)
White thread for shine or accents
Crochet hook compatible with the chosen thread thickness
Scissors
Tapestry needle for sewing
Step by Step
1. Creating the base of the eye
Make a magic ring with 6 single crochets (sc).
Close the circle and pull the thread tight.
Fasten off, leaving a tail of thread for sewing. This will be the black eye.
2. Adding shine (optional)
Using white thread, make a small dot-shaped embroidery above the eye.
This will create the illusion of reflection, making the eyes more vivid.
3. Sewing on the amigurumi
Place the two eyes symmetrically on your doll's face.
Use a tapestry needle and the remaining black thread to sew them firmly onto the doll.
Make a few firm stitches to keep the eyes from coming loose.
4. Customizing
For a different look, you can increase the size by making a second row in the magic circle (12 sc).
Another idea is to create a colorful border around the eyes using blue or green thread, simulating an iris.
Extra tip
If the amigurumi is for small children, avoid using plastic or glued pieces, as they can come loose. Sewn-on crochet eyes are 100% safe and also make your work more handmade and unique.
